It was the first fіɡһteг with tricycle landing gear but what made it distinctive was the engine mounted on centerline behind the pilot with a long shaft driving the propeller. There were 9,588 produced in a multitude of variations and flown by multiple countries making this aircraft one of the most successful built by the Bell.
